Commerce delays ruling on SiMn imports

NEW YORK—The Commerce Department has delayed until Sept. 17 the deadline for a preliminary determination in its anti-dumping investigation of silicomanganese imports from Australia.

Felman Production LLC and Marietta, Ohio-based Eramet Marietta Inc. requested the postponement from the original July 29 deadline to allow Commerce additional time to review and clarify responses and make relevant additional requests for information.

Felman, the Letart, W.Va.-based subsidiary of Miami-based Georgian American Alloys Inc., filed the trade case in February in response to "large and increasing volumes of low-priced imports of silicomanganese" from Australia's only producer, Tasmanian Electro Metallurgical Co. (amm.com, April 3)

Australian silicomanganese shipments to the United States totaled 70,800 tonnes last year, according to Commerce Department and U.S. International Trade Commission data.

AMM's assessment of silicomanganese is 50 to 52 cents per pound.
